The true spirit of the season

Each year 1.5 million Americans spend their holidays confined to nursing homes; more than two-thirds have no living relatives.

For these Americans, the holidays can be a lonely experience with few opportunities for companionship. At the same time, many other people look for ways to make their holidays more fulfilling – ways to return themselves to the true spirit of the season.

The Holiday Project provides an opportunity that satisfies both these needs.

Upcoming Events

Greeting Cards

Donate handmade greeting cards that can be handed out at holidays throughout the year.

One of the best ways to share the spirit of the season is by sharing a greeting card, either store-bought or homemade. Making homemade greeting cards in advance of your visit is an excellent project for a scout troop or school group.

Please send an email to

if you are interested in donating cards to The Holiday Project.

Gifts

Donate gifts to brighten the holiday season for those served by The Holiday Project.

You’re the Gift is the motto of our organization, and we mean it. The gift that you will give this holiday season is a truly precious one. Like the Little Drummer Boy, you will be giving the gift of yourself.

That being said, we welcome appropriate gifts to share with residents. Examples of appropriate gifts include small stuffed animals, sports memorabilia, large print books and magazines, sample-size bottles of lotion or soap, socks, slipper socks, and fleece throws.

It should be noted that corporate gifts are welcome as well, and are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law. The Holiday Project is a 501(c)(3) corporation. Examples of corporate gifts received in the past include children’s sleeping bags, headbands, and a series of first-edition romance novels.

Please e-mail us at youarethegift@holidayproject.net if you are interested in making a corporate donation.

Visiting

Visits are the hallmark of the Holiday Project’s Program.

Organizing a visit for your organization is easy and can bring new meaning to the holiday season. Simply contact the Activities Director of the facility that you wish to visit and explain that you are a volunteer with The Holiday Project. Refer the activities Director to this website if they need more information. Select a date and time for your visit, bearing in mind that Saturday and Sunday afternoons are best.

Once your visit is scheduled, please bear in mind that there are certain guidelines that your group must follow. One of the most important is that NO FOOD is allowed on visits.
Another important rule is that there is NO PHOTOGRAPHY on visits unless prior consent is obtained at the facility. In addition, certain facilities may impose age restrictions on visitors. Check with your facility in advance of your visit.
